Asia’s most diverse annual comedy festival celebrates fifth year!

10 shows. 20 days. 40 performances. PJ Laugh Fest, Asia’s biggest annual comedy festival, celebrates the rich and diverse world of comedy once again with shows in both Malay and English from 10 April until 1 May at PJ Live Arts, Jaya One.

Kicking off the festival is “Ringkasan Shakespeare”, a Malay-language adaptation of the world-famous Reduced Shakespeare Company’s long-running spoof “The Complete Works of William Shakespere (Abridged)” featuring all of the Bard’s 37 plays in 97 minutes! Just like the original, this production features a huge cast of three and will leave you breathless with laughter as the ensemble weaves their wicked way through all of Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories and Tragedies in one wild ride!

Returning this year is international favourite “Faulty Towers The Dining Experience”, the outstanding immersion theatre tribute to the BBC TV series made famous by comic actors John Cleese, Prunella Scales and Andrew Sachs. Featuring all the best gags and a great meal, audiences get to enjoy being served by domineering "Sybil", neurotic "Basil" and hopelessly-challenged "Manuel"!

Rumah Anak Teater celebrates the one-year anniversary of the nation’s first open mic stand-up comedy platform in Malay, “Cerita Malam Jumaat”, with a two-night showcase at PJ Live Arts’ main stage. In addition, Indonesian master comics Mo Sidik, Randhika Jamil, MC Danny, Isman HS and Reno Fenady will perform stand-up, improv, and sketch comedy in “Improv Indo” while TV favourite Isey Fazlisham and his dikir barat troupe will thrill audiences in “Isey Turun K.L.”, a tongue-in-cheek coming-of-age story of a Kelantanese native venturing into the nation's capital for the first time. More Malay-language humour will be presented by actors Daniel Lee and Azmi Bahron delivering two comic monologues about laziness and stupidity in “Tak Bodoh”.

No comedy festival will be complete without some serious stand-up and local favourites Kavin Jay, Rizal van Geyzel, Jonathan Atherton, Sim Tong, Bibi K Poh, Sulaiman Azmil, Aw Yuong Tuck, Thenesh Skip, Haikal Idris, Gajen Nad, Prakash Daniel, Keren Bala Devan, Justin Heyes and I-just-back-from-performing-at-the-Melbourne-International-Comedy-Festival one-liner humourist Brian Tan, will tickle audiences aplenty in “Daddy Issues”, “The Dirty Half-Dozen”, “Kelakarism”, “Crackhouse Comedy All-Stars” and “Young, Wild & Funny” as well as the nation’s original open-mic stand-up comedy platform “One Mic Stand”.
