Recently, a journalist was courageous enough to resign AND go public over self-censorship in the media organisation he works for. This sparked off a series of supportive civil society actions, from pseudo flash mobs reading newspapers upside down to a superb exhibition-performance of censored stuff. But what’s the big deal about media self-censorship? What’s at stake when a reporter or the media is not allowed to do their job, i.e. “to provide the people with the information they need to be free and self-governing”?

Be part of the answers in our interactive session, make a song-and-dance out of it (we mean that literally – so bring your own musical instruments and what-have-yous) at the Centre for Independent Journalism’s 'Forum Theatre' entitled, “What you don’t know that you don’t know”, and transform it to, “What you didn’t know you now know”. With facilitation by writer/director/theatre trainer Ayam Fared. Welcomed: Journalists, wannabe and closet actors and activists, and victims of media censorship…which means pretty much everyone!

For more information, contact: 03-4023 0772; cijmalaysia@gmail.com . And look out for the CIJ booth at the KL Alternative Book Fest.
